EZPass Kentucky is the official electronic toll system for drivers crossing bridges in the Louisville and Southern Indiana region. It runs through the RiverLink platform and works with the E-ZPass network across more than 19 states. This resource covers every part of the EZPassKY system, from logging in and signing up to paying tolls, mounting transponders, fixing common errors, and saving money with frequent-user discounts. Each section gives clear steps, real examples, and updated facts based on the latest 2026 RiverLink policies.

Drivers who do not have a transponder can still use the bridges. High-resolution cameras capture their license plate, and RiverLink mails an invoice to the registered vehicle owner. This method costs more per crossing than using a transponder. EZPass Kentucky is part of the larger E-ZPass Group, which means a RiverLink transponder works in many other states, including Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Illinois, and Massachusetts.
What is EZPass Kentucky and How Does It Work?
EZPass Kentucky (also called EZPassKY) is a cashless toll collection program operated by RiverLink, a joint project between Kentucky and Indiana. It covers tolls on three major bridges: the Abraham Lincoln Bridge, the John F. Kennedy Memorial Bridge, and the Lewis and Clark Bridge. The system uses a small electronic transponder mounted on your windshield. As you drive through a tolling point, overhead antennas read the transponder and deduct the toll from your prepaid account.
EZPassKY Login: Step to Process
Logging into your EZPassKY account takes less than two minutes when you have your credentials ready. The login happens on the official RiverLink website or the RiverLink mobile app. Always type the URL directly into your browser to avoid fake phishing sites that copy the RiverLink login page. The real address is riverlink.etcchosted.com.

Step 1: Access the RiverLink Portal or App
Open your web browser and go to RiverLink.com, or open the RiverLink app on your phone. The app is free and works on iOS and Android devices. Make sure your internet connection is stable. A weak signal can cause the login page to time out before you finish entering your details.
Step 2: Enter Your Credentials
Type your username or email address in the first box. Then type your password in the second box. Passwords are case-sensitive, so check that your Caps Lock key is off. Complete the CAPTCHA image check to prove you are not a robot. The CAPTCHA may ask you to click pictures of cars, traffic lights, or street signs.
Step 3: Enable Two-Factor Authentication
After logging in, go to Account Settings and turn on two-factor authentication. This adds a second layer of safety by sending a one-time code to your phone or email every time you log in from a new device. Two-factor authentication stops hackers from accessing your account even if they steal your password.
Step 4: Use Biometric Login (Optional)
If you use the RiverLink app on a modern phone, you can enable fingerprint login or face recognition. This skips the need to type your password each time. Biometric login works on iPhone 5s and newer, and most Android phones made after 2018.
Step 5: Check Account Status
Once logged in, the dashboard shows your current balance, recent tolls, vehicle list, and transponder status. You can add funds, update your credit card, or download statements from this screen. Log out after each session if you share your device with others.
How to Sign Up for EZPassKY
Opening an EZPassKY account is the first step to paying lower toll rates on Louisville bridges. The signup process is free, but you must fund the account with at least $20 to start. The $20 minimum is your opening balance. You can add more money anytime.
Step 1: Visit RiverLink.com or App
Open RiverLink.com on a desktop browser or the RiverLink app on your phone. Click the “Sign Up” or “Open an Account” button at the top of the page. The signup form takes about 10 minutes to complete if you have your documents ready.
Step 2: Enter Personal Details
Type your full legal name, home address, email address, and phone number. Use an email you check often because RiverLink sends account alerts and monthly statements there. The phone number is used for two-factor authentication and account recovery.
Step 3: Register Vehicle Information
Add the license plate number, year, make, and model of every vehicle you want linked to the account. Each vehicle can have up to two license plates registered. The system matches the plate to tolling cameras and your transponder for accurate billing.
Step 4: Set Up Payment Method
Choose a credit card, debit card, or bank account for auto-replenishment. Auto-replenishment means RiverLink automatically adds funds to your account when the balance drops below a set level, usually $10. You can also choose manual payments and skip auto-replenishment.
Step 5: Purchase and Activate Transponder
Order a sticker transponder or a portable transponder from the RiverLink website, or pick one up at any RiverLink retail partner like Speedway or Kroger. Once it arrives, log in to your account, click “Add Transponder,” and type the serial number printed on the device. Mount the transponder on your windshield before driving through any toll point.
EZPassKY Login Requirements
Six items must be in place before you can log in to EZPassKY without errors. Missing any one of them can lock you out or block the login page from loading.
- Valid email or username: This must match the address used when you opened the account.
- Strong password: Passwords need at least 8 characters, one uppercase letter, one lowercase letter, and one number.
- Registered license plate: At least one vehicle must be linked to the account before login works fully.
- Compatible browser or app: Use Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge. Internet Explorer is no longer supported.
- Email or phone verification: You must verify your contact details within 30 days of opening the account.
- Minimum account balance: A balance of $20 or more is required to start using the transponder on toll roads.
Two-factor authentication adds one more step. After typing your password, the system sends a 6-digit code to your phone. Type that code into the box to finish logging in. The code expires after 10 minutes.
EZPassKY Issues
Login problems are common and usually have simple fixes. Below are the top nine issues drivers face and how to solve each one in under five minutes.
Forgot Password
Click the “Forgot Password” link on the login page. Type your email address. RiverLink sends a reset link to that email within 60 seconds. Open the link, type a new password, and confirm. If the email does not arrive, check your spam folder. You can also call 1-855-RIV-LINK to reset the password by phone.
Forgot Username
Click the “Forgot Username” link. Type the email address tied to your account. RiverLink texts or emails your username. If you no longer have access to that email, call customer service with your license plate number and a photo ID to verify ownership.
Account Locked
Too many failed login attempts lock the account for 30 minutes. Wait 30 minutes and try again. If the lockout continues, call 1-855-RIV-LINK. A representative can unlock the account after verifying your identity with your full name, email, and license plate number.
Browser Compatibility
Outdated browsers cause login errors. Update Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge to the latest version. Clear cookies and cache before logging in. Disable browser extensions like ad blockers, which can block the RiverLink login scripts from running.
Expired Login Session
RiverLink logs you out after 15 minutes of no activity for safety. Save your work often when updating account details. If the page times out, log in again. The “Keep Me Logged In” checkbox on the login page extends the session to 8 hours.
Internet Connectivity
A slow or dropping internet connection can break the login process. Run a speed test at fast.com to check your connection. Restart your router if the speed is below 5 Mbps. Switch to mobile data if your home Wi-Fi is unstable.
Server Downtime
RiverLink performs system maintenance most Tuesday nights between 11 PM and 3 AM Eastern Time. During this window, the login page may not load. Try again after 3 AM. Major outages are posted on the RiverLink Twitter account (@RiverLinkKY).
Technical Glitches
Clear your browser cache, restart your device, and try a different browser if pages freeze or buttons do not work. Old versions of the RiverLink app can also cause errors. Update the app through the App Store or Google Play.
Unsupported Device or OS
The RiverLink app requires iOS 14 or newer and Android 9 or newer. Older phones cannot install the latest version. Use a desktop or laptop computer as a backup login method. The RiverLink website works on any modern browser.
Type of Account in EZPassKY
Three account types exist on the EZPassKY system. Each fits a different driver profile. Picking the right type saves time and money.
Personal Account
The Personal Account is for individual drivers and families. It supports up to 10 vehicles and 4 transponders per account. The minimum opening balance is $20. Monthly statements are free. Personal accounts get full access to frequent-user discounts and fee forgiveness programs. This is the most common account type, used by over 90% of EZPassKY drivers.
Commercial Account
The Commercial Account is for businesses, delivery services, and fleet operators. It supports unlimited vehicles and transponders. The minimum opening balance is $50 per transponder. Commercial accounts get bulk rate discounts, itemized monthly statements, and a dedicated account manager. Fuel and vehicle data can be exported in CSV format for bookkeeping.
Government Account
The Government Account is for city, county, state, and federal vehicles. It includes police cars, fire trucks, ambulances, and public works trucks. Government accounts have special invoicing options and may qualify for tax-exempt billing. Agencies must submit a government ID and a letter of authorization to open this account type.
EZPassKY Open and Managing Your Account
Opening an account takes 10 minutes online. Managing it takes only a few minutes a month. The RiverLink dashboard gives you full control of your account from any device.
To open a new account, go to RiverLink.com and click “Open an Account.” Fill in your name, address, email, phone, vehicle details, and payment method. Fund the account with a credit card or bank transfer. Order your transponder during signup or pick one up at a retail partner.
To manage an existing account, log in to RiverLink.com. The dashboard has five tabs:
- Balance: Shows your current balance and auto-replenishment settings.
- Vehicles: Add, remove, or update license plates and vehicle details.
- Transponders: View transponder status, battery life, and mounting checks.
- Statements: Download monthly toll statements as PDF files.
- Profile: Update name, address, email, phone, and password.
Auto-replenishment is the easiest way to keep your account active. Set the threshold to $10 and the refill amount to $20. RiverLink adds $20 to your balance whenever it drops below $10. A receipt is emailed for every refill.
EZPassKY Transponder Types and How to Mount Them
RiverLink offers two transponder types. Both work the same way at toll points. The right choice depends on how many vehicles you drive and whether you switch cars often.
Transponder Types
- Sticker Transponder: A thin, peel-and-stick tag mounted on the windshield. Costs $0 with a new account. Best for a single primary vehicle. Battery-free design lasts 10+ years.
- Portable Transponder: A hard plastic tag with a Velcro mount. Costs $15. Best for rental cars, multiple vehicles, or motorcycles. Runs on a lithium battery that lasts about 5 years.
Step 1: Choose Your Transponder
Pick a sticker transponder if you have one main car. Pick a portable transponder if you drive multiple vehicles, rent cars often, or drive a motorcycle.
Step 2: Prepare Your Windshield
Clean the inside of the windshield behind the rearview mirror. Use glass cleaner and a lint-free cloth. The mounting area must be dry and free of dust, oil, or old adhesive. Avoid metalized windshields, which block the transponder signal.
Step 3: Mount the Transponder
For a sticker, peel off the backing and press firmly on the windshield about 2 inches below the rearview mirror. For a portable, attach the Velcro pad to the windshield first, then stick the transponder to the pad.
Step 4: Verify Placement
The transponder must be horizontal and visible to the overhead antennas. Do not place it behind the wiper blade, near the edge of the windshield, or under tinted visors. Wrong placement is the number one cause of “transponder not read” errors at toll points.
Step 5: Activate and Test
Log in to your account, click “Add Transponder,” and type the serial number. Drive through a toll point within 24 hours to confirm the transponder reads correctly. A successful test posts a $0 or $2 toll to your account history.
EZPassKY Payments Options
RiverLink gives you four ways to pay tolls. Each method has a different price per crossing. Transponder users always pay the lowest rate.
| Payment Method | Average Car Rate | Best For |
|---|---|---|
| Transponder (E-ZPass) | $2.10 per crossing | Daily commuters, frequent drivers |
| Pay-by-Plate (registered) | $3.15 per crossing | Out-of-state visitors, occasional users |
| Pay-by-Mail (unregistered) | $4.20 per crossing | One-time crossings, rental cars |
| Pay-by-Plate (frequent user) | $2.50 per crossing | Registered plate, no transponder |
Auto-replenishment, manual online payments, cash reloads at retailers, and mailed invoice payments are all accepted payment channels. Each channel is explained below.
Auto-Replenishment
Link a credit card, debit card, or bank account. RiverLink charges the linked payment method whenever your balance falls below the threshold you set. The default is $10 threshold and $20 refill. You can change these numbers anytime in your account settings.
Manual Online Payment
Log in to RiverLink.com, click “Add Funds,” type the amount, and confirm. Accepted cards are Visa, Mastercard, Discover, and American Express. Bank transfers take 1 to 3 business days. Card payments post within minutes.
Cash Reload
Visit any RiverLink retail partner, including Speedway, Kroger, and Circle K. Tell the cashier your account number, hand over cash, and the funds post to your account within 10 minutes. A $1.50 service fee applies per cash reload.
Invoice Payment
Drivers without a transponder get an invoice in the mail. Pay the invoice online at PayRiverLink.com, by phone at 1-855-RIV-LINK, or by mail with a check. Invoices not paid within 30 days add a $25 late fee.
How to Pay Your Toll Bill
Paying a RiverLink toll bill is fast. Five steps cover the process from login to confirmation.
Step 1: Log Into RiverLink.com
Go to RiverLink.com and type your username and password. Complete the CAPTCHA check. Two-factor authentication may ask for a 6-digit code from your phone.
Step 2: Check Your Toll Invoice
Click “Statements” on the dashboard. The latest invoice shows every toll from the past 30 days. Each line shows the date, time, bridge, vehicle, and amount. Download the invoice as a PDF for your records.
Step 3: Pay Online or by Phone
Click “Pay Now” on the invoice. Type your card or bank details. Payment posts within 24 hours. To pay by phone, call 1-855-RIV-LINK, give your invoice number, and pay with a card. Phone payments are available 7 AM to 7 PM Eastern, Monday through Friday.
Step 4: Mail Payments if Needed
Make checks payable to “RiverLink.” Write your invoice number on the memo line. Mail to: RiverLink Processing Center, P.O. Box 780110, Philadelphia, PA 19178-0110. Mailed payments take 7 to 10 business days to process.
Step 5: Link Plates for Credits
If you have an unpaid Pay-by-Plate toll, log in and add the license plate to your account within 60 days. RiverLink retroactively applies transponder rates to those tolls. The credit shows up on your next statement.
Save with RiverLink Fee Forgiveness
RiverLink Fee Forgiveness waives late fees and penalties for new account holders. The program is open to drivers who opened a prepaid account within 60 days of their first toll. Forgiveness covers up to $250 in late fees per account.
To qualify:
- Open a prepaid EZPassKY account.
- Link a transponder to that account.
- Add at least $20 in starting funds.
- Sign up within 60 days of the first toll on the unpaid invoice.
Fee Forgiveness saves drivers more than $2.50 per crossing. A driver with 20 missed tolls over two months can save $50 or more. The credit posts to the account within 7 business days of approval.
EZPassKY Locations
RiverLink has two customer service centers and over 300 retail partner locations across Kentucky and Indiana. The centers handle in-person signups, transponder issues, and account disputes.

EZPassKY Benefits
EZPass Kentucky has six clear benefits for drivers. Each benefit saves time, money, or stress at the toll plaza.
- Lower toll rates: Transponder users pay about 50% less per crossing than Pay-by-Mail drivers.
- Cashless travel: No toll booths, no stopping, no fumbling for change.
- Multi-state use: One transponder works in 19+ E-ZPass states, including Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, and Pennsylvania.
- Frequent-user discounts: Drivers with 40+ monthly crossings get a 25% discount on tolls.
- Fee Forgiveness: New accounts get late fees waived when opened within 60 days.
- Online account control: Manage balance, vehicles, and statements from any device.
Out-of-state drivers benefit most from the E-ZPass interoperability. A driver from Chicago with an I-Pass transponder can use it on Louisville bridges without buying a new device. A New York E-ZPass holder can drive from New York to Kentucky using the same tag the whole way.
EZPassKY Frequent-User Discount Plan
The Frequent-User Discount Plan rewards drivers who cross Louisville bridges often. Discounts are based on monthly crossing counts and apply automatically to the next month’s tolls.
| Monthly Crossings | Discount | Example Savings (20 crossings) |
|---|---|---|
| 1-19 crossings | Standard rate | $0 saved |
| 20-39 crossings | 10% off | Save $4.20 |
| 40+ crossings | 25% off | Save $10.50 |
Crossings count resets on the first of each month. Discounts apply to transponder tolls only. Pay-by-Plate and Pay-by-Mail tolls do not count toward the discount. To check your monthly crossing count, log in to RiverLink.com and click “Toll History.”
EZPassKY Tolled Bridges
Three tolled bridges operate under the EZPassKY system. All three cross the Ohio River between Louisville, Kentucky, and Southern Indiana.
- Abraham Lincoln Bridge: Carries northbound Interstate 65 traffic. Opened December 2016. Six lanes.
- John F. Kennedy Memorial Bridge: Carries southbound Interstate 65 traffic. Reopened December 2016 after reconstruction. Six lanes.
- Lewis and Clark Bridge: Connects Indiana State Road 265 with Kentucky State Road 841. Opened December 2016. Four lanes.
Two non-tolled alternatives exist for drivers who want to skip tolls entirely:
- Clark Memorial Bridge: Local bridge between Louisville and Jeffersonville. No commercial vehicles allowed.
- Sherman Minton Bridge: Carries Interstate 64 between Louisville and New Albany. Toll-free.
Toll rates depend on vehicle classification. Passenger cars pay the lowest rate. Pickup trucks, SUVs, and vans pay the same as cars. Vehicles with three or more axles pay higher rates. Motorcycles get a 50% discount on transponder tolls.
Pay-By-Plate with EZPassKY
Pay-by-Plate is RiverLink’s video tolling system. It uses high-definition cameras mounted on overhead gantries to capture license plate images. A computer reads the plate, looks up the registered owner through state DMV records, and mails an invoice to that address. Pay-by-Plate rates are higher than transponder rates. The extra cost covers the manual processing of plate lookups, invoice printing, and mailing. Drivers who use Pay-by-Plate often can save money by switching to a transponder.
Pay-by-Plate tolls are due within 30 days. Late payments add a $25 fee per unpaid toll. After 90 days unpaid, the case is sent to a collections agency and may result in a registration hold on the vehicle.
EZPassKY Customer Service
RiverLink customer service is available 7 days a week. Three contact methods cover phone, email, and in-person visits.
Contact Information
- Phone: 1-855-RIV-LINK (1-855-748-5465). Hours: Mon-Fri 7 AM-7 PM, Sat 8 AM-2 PM Eastern.
- Email: customerservice@riverlink.com. Reply time: 1-2 business days.
- Live Chat: Available on RiverLink.com during business hours.
- Mail: RiverLink, P.O. Box 780110, Philadelphia, PA 19178-0110.
Automated phone support is available 24/7. The system can check your balance, list recent tolls, and process payments. For account changes, disputes, or transponder issues, speak with a live representative during business hours.
Customer Service Centers
The two customer service centers handle in-person requests. Bring a photo ID, your transponder, and your license plate number. in-person tasks include:
- Opening a new account
- Picking up a replacement transponder
- Disputing a toll charge
- Updating vehicle or contact details
- Requesting a refund for a closed account
Wait times at the centers average 10 minutes during business hours. The Louisville center is busier on Mondays and Fridays. The Jeffersonville center has shorter lines on Saturday mornings.
How All-Electronic Tolling Works
All-electronic tolling (AET) replaces physical toll booths with overhead gantries. The system works through three technologies: RFID transponders, license plate recognition cameras, and vehicle classification sensors. When a vehicle drives under a gantry, RFID antennas send a radio signal. Transponder-equipped vehicles respond with the tag’s unique ID. The system deducts the toll from the linked account. For vehicles without a transponder, cameras snap a clear picture of the front and rear license plates. Optical character recognition (OCR) software reads the plate and matches it to DMV records. A bill is generated and mailed to the registered owner.
Vehicle classification sensors use laser or infrared beams to count axles and measure the vehicle’s height. This data sets the toll rate. A passenger car pays less than a semi-truck because of the axle and weight difference. All-electronic tolling reduces traffic congestion, cuts emissions from idling cars, and lowers road maintenance costs. It also stops the safety risk of merging into and out of toll plaza lanes at highway speeds.
Tolling Options and Rates
RiverLink tolls depend on four factors: payment method, vehicle type, time of day, and bridge. The current rates for passenger cars (2-axle vehicles) on all three bridges are:
| Payment Method | Rate per Crossing |
|---|---|
| E-ZPass Transponder | $2.10 |
| Pay-by-Plate (registered) | $3.15 |
| Pay-by-Mail (unregistered) | $4.20 |
| Pay-by-Plate Frequent User | $2.50 |
Rates for trucks (3+ axles) start at $6.50 per crossing for transponder users and go up based on axle count. Motorcycles pay $1.05 with a transponder. RiverLink does not offer time-of-day pricing or peak/off-peak rates. The toll is the same 24/7.
EZPassKY Toll Calculator
The RiverLink Toll Calculator is a free online tool on RiverLink.com. It helps drivers estimate trip costs before they travel. To use the calculator:
- Open RiverLink.com and click “Toll Calculator” in the menu.
- Enter your starting point and destination.
- Select your vehicle type (car, truck, motorcycle).
- Choose your payment method (transponder, plate, mail).
- Click “Calculate.”
The calculator shows the total toll cost for the trip. It also lists each bridge crossing and the rate per crossing. Drivers planning multi-state trips can use the calculator to compare routes and find the cheapest path.
RiverLink Traveler Tips
Smart travelers save money and time on Louisville tolls. Six tips help drivers get the most out of their EZPassKY account.
- Check your balance weekly: Log in every Monday to confirm your balance is above $10. Set up low-balance alerts to get a text or email when funds drop.
- Use auto-replenishment: A missed toll costs $25 in late fees. Auto-replenishment keeps your account funded so you never miss a payment.
- Register every plate: If you drive more than one car, register all plates. This protects you from Pay-by-Plate rates on the cars without a transponder.
- Keep your transponder visible: A dirty, cracked, or hidden transponder may not read. Replace dead batteries in portable transponders every 5 years.
- Download the app: The RiverLink app shows real-time balance, recent tolls, and low-balance alerts on your phone.
- Travel during off-peak hours: The bridges are busiest 7-9 AM and 4-6 PM. Off-peak travel is faster, even at the same toll rate.
How to Resolve Toll Disputes in EZPassKY
Toll disputes happen. A driver passes a bridge, the transponder fails, and an extra charge shows up. RiverLink has a clear dispute process to fix these errors.
To file a dispute:
- Log in to RiverLink.com.
- Click “Toll History.”
- Find the toll you want to dispute.
- Click “Dispute” next to the toll.
- Select the reason for the dispute (wrong plate, transponder not read, vehicle not on road, etc.).
- Upload supporting documents (photos, receipts, rental agreements).
- Submit the dispute form.
RiverLink reviews disputes within 30 days. Approved disputes result in a credit posted to your account. Denied disputes include a written reason for the denial. You can appeal a denied dispute by calling 1-855-RIV-LINK and asking for a supervisor review.
dispute reasons and outcomes:
- Transponder not read: Often approved if the transponder was mounted correctly. Credit applied to account.
- Wrong plate on file: Approved if you update the plate during the dispute process. Toll recalculated at the correct rate.
- Vehicle sold or traded: Approved with a bill of sale. Toll transferred to the new owner’s account or forgiven.
- Rental car: Approved with a rental agreement showing the vehicle was rented. Toll charged to the rental company.
Comparing EZPass Kentucky with Other Toll Systems
EZPass Kentucky is one of many U.S. toll systems. Comparing it to systems in other states helps drivers pick the best option for their travel patterns.
| Feature | EZPassKY (RiverLink) | SunPass (Florida) | FasTrak (California) | TxTag (Texas) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Network Size | 19+ states | 5+ states (SE only) | California only | Texas + OK, KS |
| Transponder Cost | $0 sticker, $15 portable | $5 sticker, $25 portable | $0 sticker, $40 portable | $9.10 sticker, $26.15 portable |
| Min. Account Balance | $20 | $10 | $25 | $20 |
| Pay-by-Plate Fee | $1.05 extra/crossing | $2.50 extra/invoice | $2.00 extra/crossing | $1.50 extra/crossing |
| Cashless Tolling | Yes (100%) | Yes (100%) | Yes (mostly) | Yes (mostly) |
| Mobile App | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
EZPass Kentucky’s main advantage is the E-ZPass network. A single transponder works in 19 states from Maine to Illinois. SunPass, FasTrak, and TxTag are more limited. Drivers who travel across state lines save time and money with EZPassKY.
About EZ Pass KY
EZPassKY is the Kentucky arm of the E-ZPass network. It started in 2016 with the opening of the Ohio River Bridges Project. The system is run by RiverLink, a partnership between the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet and the Indiana Department of Transportation.
RiverLink is funded by toll revenue. The tolls collected pay for bridge construction, maintenance, and operations. Once the bonds used to build the bridges are paid off (projected 2043), tolls may be reduced or removed. Until then, tolls continue to fund the $2.3 billion bridge project.
More than 250,000 accounts are active in the system. About 70% of crossings use a transponder. The other 30% use Pay-by-Plate or Pay-by-Mail. RiverLink processes about 8 million toll transactions per year.
Frequently Asked Questions
This FAQ section covers the most common questions about EZPass Kentucky accounts, transponders, toll billing, and disputes. Use these answers to keep your account in good standing and avoid common mistakes that cost drivers money.
What auto-replenishment level should I choose for my E-ZPass account?
The right auto-replenishment level depends on how often you drive through tolling points. The default threshold is $10. The default refill is $20. Daily commuters should keep these defaults. The threshold triggers a refill before the balance runs out, and the $20 refill covers about 9 transponder crossings. Occasional drivers can set a higher threshold ($20) and a smaller refill ($20) to avoid large card charges. Heavy users (40+ crossings per month) should set a higher refill amount ($50) so the account does not refill too often. RiverLink recommends keeping the refill amount at least twice the average monthly toll spend. You can change the threshold and refill in Account Settings anytime.
Why is my E-ZPass auto-replenishment not working?
Auto-replenishment fails for three main reasons. The most common is an expired card. Log in to RiverLink.com, click “Payment Methods,” and update the card with a new expiration date. The second reason is a closed bank account. ACH transfers from a closed account fail and trigger a “declined” status on the account. Add a different bank account or switch to a credit card. The third reason is a billing address mismatch. The address on file with EZPassKY must match the address on the card. Mismatched addresses trigger a fraud alert that blocks the charge.
If auto-replenishment still fails after these checks, call 1-855-RIV-LINK. A representative can run a test charge and identify the problem.
What are my E-ZPass transponder choices?
RiverLink offers two transponder types. The sticker transponder is free with a new account. It is a thin, peel-and-stick tag that mounts on the inside of the windshield behind the rearview mirror. It has no battery and lasts 10+ years. It works only on the vehicle it is mounted on. The portable transponder costs $15. It is a hard plastic tag that mounts with Velcro. It is battery-powered and lasts about 5 years. You can move it between vehicles, which makes it good for rental cars, motorcycles, and multi-car households. Both transponder types read the same way at toll points and give the same discount.
What if I already have an E-ZPass transponder from another tolling agency?
You can use an out-of-state E-ZPass on RiverLink bridges without buying a new transponder. Your existing E-ZPass will read at the toll point. The toll will post to your home agency’s account, not a RiverLink account. You will not get RiverLink-specific frequent-user discounts, but you will get the standard E-ZPass rate, which is the lowest available. To get RiverLink discounts, open a RiverLink account and link your existing transponder serial number to it. Your home agency must release the transponder for cross-agency use, which most agencies do for free.
How do I get my frequent-user discount on E-ZPass?
The frequent-user discount applies automatically. Log in to RiverLink.com, click “Account Settings,” and confirm your account has a transponder linked and a positive balance. The system tracks your crossings in real time. When you hit 20 crossings in a month, the 10% discount applies to your next statement. At 40 crossings, the 25% discount kicks in. Discounts reset on the first of each month. There is no enrollment form. The system runs the discount calculation each billing cycle based on actual crossing counts.
Why haven’t all of my crossings posted to my E-ZPass account?
Crossings can take 24 to 72 hours to post to your account. This is normal. The tolling system processes millions of transactions, and posting is not always instant. If a crossing is still missing after 5 business days, check the toll history for a “pending” status. Pending tolls are in the queue to post. If a crossing is missing entirely, the transponder may not have read. This can happen if the transponder is mounted wrong, the battery is dead, or the windshield is metalized. Check the mounting position and test the transponder by driving through a toll point at low speed.
When can I expect to receive an invoice for tolls?
Drivers without a transponder get an invoice in the mail 7 to 14 days after the crossing. The invoice shows the date, time, bridge, and amount. Payment is due 30 days from the invoice date. Late payments add a $25 fee per unpaid toll. If you do not get an invoice within 30 days of a crossing, log in to RiverLink.com and check your toll history. The toll may have posted to a plate image match instead of a mailed invoice.
Where is an E-ZPass invoice sent and how do I update that information?
Invoices go to the mailing address on your account. To update the address, log in to RiverLink.com, click “Profile,” and edit the “Mailing Address” field. Click “Save.” The change takes effect within 24 hours. Future invoices will go to the new address. Old invoices sent to the old address are still valid and must be paid. You can also add a secondary mailing address for rental cars or temporary stays. Log in, click “Profile,” and click “Add Secondary Address.” The system sends invoices to the primary address first and the secondary address as a backup.

If your dispute is denied, you can appeal by calling 1-855-RIV-LINK.
When and how will I receive a response to a toll dispute?

Denied disputes include a written reason and instructions for appeal. To appeal, call 1-855-RIV-LINK and ask for a supervisor review. The supervisor will look at your case again and respond within 14 days. Keep copies of all dispute documents. If the dispute goes to collections, your paperwork proves the case was under review.
How much does it cost to cross one of the tolled bridges with E-ZPass?
A passenger car pays $2.10 per crossing with an E-ZPass transponder. A pickup truck or SUV also pays $2.10. A motorcycle pays $1.05. A 3-axle vehicle pays $6.50. A 4-axle vehicle pays $9.00. A 5-axle vehicle pays $11.50. A 6-axle vehicle pays $14.00. A 7-or-more-axle vehicle pays $16.50. Rates are the same on all three tolled bridges. Pay-by-Plate rates are 50% higher for passenger cars ($3.15) and scale up for larger vehicles. Pay-by-Mail rates are 100% higher for passenger cars ($4.20) and scale up for larger vehicles.
When will tolling end on these bridges?
Tolling is scheduled to continue until the bonds for the Ohio River Bridges Project are paid off. The bonds are projected to be paid off in 2043. Until then, tolls fund bridge maintenance, operations, and debt service. After 2043, tolls may be reduced or removed based on a joint decision by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet and the Indiana Department of Transportation. There is no current plan to remove tolls before 2043. RiverLink has not announced any early end to the tolling program. Drivers should plan for tolls to continue for the next 18 years.
